School Street operating times

Monday to Friday during school term time

8.15am to 9am

2.45pm to 3.30pm

We encourage drivers to take advantage of all the free parking in the area, including spaces on the west side of High Street, where the new zebra crossing provides a safer route for people to walk and wheel. It’s the same walking distance from here to the school as it is from Pembroke Road. If you’re unsure where to find additional free parking, see our Park and Stride map.

How has the School Street progressed?

  • In February 2023 we held our first engagement event at the school to discuss our ambition to create a permanent School Street on Penny Street, St Nicholas Street, Pembroke Close and Peacock Lane.
  • In October 2023 we held a second engagement event to share our proposed designs.
  • In November 23 – January 24 we held pop-ups at the gate, discussing the proposal with parents and showing how the School Street will look.
  • In January 2024 we sent residents their access permits. Parents, residents, and businesses were told about the School Streets start date.
  • In February 2024 the School Street launched. Our team spent a few weeks speaking with parents, carers and residents about the changes.
  • In May 2024 the new zebra crossing on High Street was put in place, providing a safer route for children, parents, carers and residents to walk and wheel.
  • In May 2024 notices were put up in surrounding streets asking people to complete our online survey to let us know what they think about the School Street.
  • In July 2024 we spoke with parents and carers and sent out information to the school to ensure that parents and carers could have their say.
  • In August 2024 we spoke to residents and encouraged them to have their say. 18 August 2024 marked the end of the first six months of the School Street, as well as the end of the consultation period.
  • In November 2024 all feedback on the scheme was included in a recommendations report presented at the Transport Cabinet Member’s Decision Meeting, where a decision was made to carry out the observations due to non-compliance.
  • In May 2025 all feedback on the scheme was included in a recommendations report presented at the Transport Cabinet Member’s Decision Meeting, where a decision was made to make Bramble School Street permanent.
  • In July 2025 the scheme became permanent.
