Happy holly-days, Portsmouth buses are running on Christmas day!

Passengers in Portsmouth will find it easier to travel this Christmas Day as a number of special bus services are running.

Working with bus providers Stagecoach and First bus, Portsmouth City Council has compiled a festive public transport timetable, which is designed to help get local people and visitors into town for celebrations, to take people to and from QA hospital, and to reunite families on Christmas Day.

This is one in a series of council led schemes funded by the Bus Service Improvement Plan, a £48 million investment of government funding designed to transform bus travel for Portsmouth residents and visitors, creating a quicker and more reliable bus service.

Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

“We want to encourage people to travel by bus and really enjoy Christmas and New Year with their friends and family. On Christmas Day, First Solent bus routes 1,2,3,7,8, and Stagecoach routes 21, and 23 will be in service running to a special Christmas timetable.”

“We are delighted to be offering bus services on Christmas day, keeping the city connected over the festive period, and allowing people to visit loved ones in hospital, and helping families get together.”

Marc Reddy, Managing Director at Stagecoach South said: “At Stagecoach, we are dedicated to providing safe, sustainable and convenient transport and our priority is to help people stay connected with friends, family and the local community over the festive period.”

James Eustace, Commercial Director at First Solent, added: “We know how important our services are for people, and we’re pleased to be providing special bus services over the festive period. Whether that’s enjoying the panto, seeing friends, or getting to hospital, we’re proud to be able to help people get to where they need to be this Christmas.”

Local bus companies and other public transport services are introducing several changes to their regular services throughout the holidays, Christmas Day to Monday 2 January inclusive. Please note that buses will run a Sunday service with an early finish on New Years Eve and until 6pm on Christmas Day. Each route is different, and you can find out more about below, and on the service provide websites.
