We’ve improved the junction at Elm Grove and Grove Road South. This is a popular route for people walking, cycling and travelling in vehicles, and we need to make sure it is safe for all road users.
These works are part of a vital safety improvement scheme, prompted by eleven reported casualties at this junction over the past five years, including two serious incidents involving cyclists and pedestrians.
What are the improvements?
- Dedicated cycle lanes on three arms of the junction, separated from traffic by wands like those successfully installed on Goldsmith Avenue
- Improved road width on Elm Grove to the east of Grove Road North, made possible by removing four limited-waiting parking spaces
- Widened advance stop areas for cyclists to improve visibility and safety
- New parking area for bicycles and motorcycles
- Upgraded traffic signals to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian safety
