We plan to improve the walking and cycling route along Eastern Road. This will offer people a more attractive alternative to travelling by motor vehicle, as well as benefiting peoples’ health and creating less air pollution. The improvements aim to support the development of a comprehensive network of cycle routes and footpaths that are accessible for all ages and abilities.
Eastern Road is one of the major routes into the city and an essential travel corridor for many. The plan is to make this a more attractive, pleasant and safer route. Proposals include the widening of the path, and improving lighting and signage by relocating street lights and signs. The widening of the path will not reduce the width of the road.
Throughout the project we will discuss plans with residents and businesses in the area as well as those using the route so that we can truly engage people in these improvements throughout the journey.
The council is looking to gain an understanding of people’s opinions of the Eastern Road cycling and walking route. This will help inform future funding bids as opportunities arise over the coming years. The first phase that has been funded by government’s Active Travel Fund is shown on the map below between Airport Service Road and Burrfields Road.
