As part of Portsmouth’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), Portsmouth City Council is delivering a network of 27 enhanced bus stops, known as Super Stops, across the city in partnership with Bauer Media.
These new stops are designed to improve the everyday experience of bus travel by offering a range of features, which may include:
- Smart lighting and improved seating
- Real-time travel information and QR codes
- Free public WiFi and defibrillators
- Clear signage and integrated wayfinding
- Living Roofs and sustainable finishes
- Docking points for rental e-scooters
Not every stop will include every feature. Each location has been carefully assessed to ensure enhancements are tailored to local needs, site conditions, and passenger demand.
The enhanced stops will be installed in key locations including Cosham, Southsea, Fratton, Hilsea, Copnor, and the city centre, helping to create a more connected and accessible transport network.
This programme supports Portsmouth’s wider goals around sustainable travel, inclusive access, and reducing reliance on private cars. By bridging the gap between basic bus stops and major transport hubs, these new stops will make public transport more attractive, reliable, and easier to use.
In addition to the new installations, the Council is also upgrading hundreds of existing bus stops through the Revive programme, improving lighting, signage, and accessibility across the city.
This work is funded through Portsmouth’s £52 million BSIP allocation from the Department for Transport.
