The Portsmouth Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) aims to make bus travel more convenient, accessible and reliable for passengers across the city.
Passengers have told us that they want an increase in service frequency, faster journeys, and improved connections across the city. Portsmouth City Council has partnered with local bus operator, Stagecoach, to make exciting upgrades to local bus services. In effect from 6 April 2025, a new route and improved services will support commuters, shoppers, students and visitors.
Made possible through funding from the Portsmouth Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), the changes will provide better connections to key destinations across Portsmouth, including Ocean Retail Park, QA Hospital, and Clarence Pier, which also offers a convenient link for those heading to the Isle of Wight via Hovertravel.

Service 18: Southsea • Fratton • Hilsea • QA Hospital • Paulsgrove
Service 18 will run every 20 minutes, Monday to Saturday daytime, and every 30 minutes on Sundays, ensuring more frequent travel to Queen Alexandra Hospital and beyond.
Buses will start at Clarence Pier, providing easier connections for those travelling to the Isle of Wight via Hovertravel’s Ryde to Southsea service.
Buses will now call at St Jude’s Church for Southsea Shops, offering better access to Southsea.
Service 19: Leigh Park • Farlington • Burrfields • Portsmouth City Centre
The new service 19, replacing the 21 between Anchorage Park and Leigh Park, will run every hour, Monday to Saturday. The service will link Leigh Park with Farlington, the Airport Industrial Estate, Admiral Lord Nelson School, Ocean Retail Park, and Portsmouth city centre, providing faster, more direct travel for those living in and around the Leigh Park area.
The new 19 will keep the provision between Leigh Park and Copnor, whilst creating new links to the Airport Industrial Estate and Ocean Retail Park.
