Making bus travel easier and more accessible for everyone
The Portsmouth Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) aims to make bus travel more accessible and reliable for passengers across the city. Passengers have told us that they want an increase in service frequency, faster journeys, and extended service hours to make travel more efficient for night owls and early risers alike, as well as those working shifts.
As a result of this feedback, Portsmouth City Council, in close partnership with First Solent and Stagecoach South, has worked to provide greater accessibility for bus passengers in the city by introducing changes to bus services. Two key bus routes in the city now run 24 hours a day, and others operate later and have increased in frequency.
24/7 buses
The following bus services run round-the-clock, providing a seamless travel experience for night owls and early risers alike as well as those working shifts:
- First Solent route 2 – from Paulsgrove via Copnor Road to the Hard Interchange
- Stagecoach South route 23 – from Havant via North End to Southsea
Increased services
Some First Bus routes now run more often, providing faster and efficient journeys. Routes 1 and 3 run every 10 minutes between Fareham, Paulsgrove, Southsea and the Hard Interchange.
Certain First Bus and Stagecoach routes now run more frequently throughout the evening, catering for the evolving needs of the community, and taking passengers between Waterlooville and Portsmouth city centre, Baffins and Milton and from Paulsgrove to Southsea and more.
- First Bus routes 7 and 8 now run more frequently throughout the evening
- Stagecoach South routes 13, 14 and 18 now operate new evening and weekend journeys
